Pomegranates and Marmalade

Pomegranates and Marmalade
I textured these hearts with a mid-century coin from Hong Kong, and adorned them with Czech glass in pomegranate and speckled marmalade.

If I could wear orange without looking like I was dying of H1N1 (or dying of food poisoning on Christmas Day caused by an ill-advised chicken-based pub dinner, whatever the case may be) this is what I would wear with these earrings:

Frosted Gingersnaps

{Frosted Gingersnaps - available in my Etsy Shop}

I love the sweets of Christmas.

Each year we go to my sister-in-laws house for Christmas eve and she always has the most amazing assortment of frosted, sprinkled, sugared and dipped-in-chocolate confections. That is my favorite part of the graze-a-thon. I want to try one of everything but there are usually like 20 different kinds of cookies and sweets!

One cookie that reminds me of older times is the gingersnap. I love the spicy bite that they have. I like them frosted, or just plain rolled in sugar.

These little ceramic disk charms from Marsha Neal Studios reminded me of gingersnaps. I wired them up with a loop of chocolate-y nugget pearls and wrapped the excess wire around the top for a spicy little detail.

Wherever you are today, no matter what you might be celebrating, I wish you the joy of giving,  the warmth of family and friends and the peace of the season.

Merry Christmas!

Inspiration...

So I was watching the television show "How Do I Look?" and the host, Jeannie Mai, had on a really cool pair of earrings. It was hard to get a good look at them, but I could see a large pearl and some chain. So I decided to try my hand at making a similar pair and this is what I came up with. They are one of my favorite "go to" pairs. You just never know when inspiration is going to hit you!

I'd wear them with this ensemble, of course being 5'9 I would never wear heels that high!

Crazy long colorful earrings!

I posted a free-form wire fibula tutorial over at Art Jewelry Elements this past Saturday...you should really check out AJE if you don't go there regularly...lots of cool stuff in the works, but I digress!  Playing with the wire got me thinking about some other fun things to make with free-form shapes, and I came up with these earrings.

The wire components were all ready to go, and I knew I wanted to incorporate these juicy red-orange Czech glass slices I got from ArteBella Surplus, but really wanted to do the unexpected.  After perusing my lampwork box of goodies, I spied a couple of borosilicate beauties I acquired from my fellow Frederick artist, Julie Delaney.  A very cool, sea green with hints of rusty brown!

Okay...I couldn't think of a name for these...maybe you can suggest one in the comments!

I love all of the different textures- they are classic but romantic just like this room. If you would like to purchase these earrings, they are for sale in my webstore. Thank you for stopping by today!!

Asymmetry

The Japanese are masters of using asymmetry in design. You see it in their lithographs, their architecture, and in their gardening techniques. Using asymmetry is one more element that can create interest within the composition of your design.

In these earrings, I use rusty brown Czech glass nuggets and transparent brown nuggets along with copper in an inverted asymmetrical design.

Birch Branch and Bird Earrings

There is just something so appealing to me when I see a row of birch trees.  I'm reminded of Robert Frost's poem and the forests here in Michigan.  The papery bark is just waiting for a second life.  I love how they stand out in stark contrast to the heavy trunks of other trees in the woods. My favorite Autumn scene is when the birch leaves turn their golden hues.  There are all sorts of myth and folklore about birch trees, so it seems I'm not the only one captured by their beauty.

You can read more about these Birch Branch and Bird Earrings here.
