Sand and Sea

Sand and Sea
I just love the colors in natural impression jasper--the milky green of Caribbean waters, and warm sand beige. For these earrings I paired a couple roundels of impression jasper here with etched copper, new jade, and pale green aventurine.

I picture them with a funky hippie ensemble:

I am feeling so wild I would just about almost wear a dress.

Full Circle

Summer calls for easy, breezy clothes when the sun gets hot. Today I am wearing the first maxi dress that I have ever owned. I have been holding off wearing it because I didn't want to look like I had a baby on board. But after spending the morning in it, I actually feel cool and comfortable and really pulled together.

[Green Stripe Halter Maxi Dress by Jessica Simpson]

I paired my own emerald green and navy color blocked maxi with these simple earrings in silver and copper: different sized twisted wire jump rings wrapped with thin wire for a cage effect. This dress from Jessica Simpson (yes! that Jessica Simpson!) has a similar flowy feel perfect for louging poolside... or even picking up groceries. Add a long dangly necklace, some bangles climbing your arm, strappy sandals - a must - and you look like a million bucks. I feel like I am on vacation when I wear this dress even though I am just sitting in my office.Who knew that this much fabric could be this much fun?! To me it finally feels like summer has arrived and come full circle.

Repurposing

A few months ago, I was shopping and saw a pair of inexpensive earrings that I knew I had to buy because I was going to repurpose them.  I have a pic of what's left of them at this point (see pic below) since I have used the copper dangles and the other antique gold and silver dangles. I hammered them to flatten and give texture and then punched holes in them. I love how each pair has turned out so far. I've used Peruvian opals on the copper and antique gold pair and turquoise on the silver pair.

This is what I did with the antique gold pair....
And this is what I did with the silver pair ( my tribal wrap earrings that I featured on this blog a few weeks ago).

You can see the copper pair here, and the antique gold pair here as well as many of my other designs on my website.

Seafoam

Simplicity won out with these new Seafoam earrings.
I just adore the look of a headpin threaded through some beautiful beads so I couldn't resist pairing some of my Starfish Headpins and amazing HavanaBeads glass beads.

These earrings are available for purchase HERE in my Etsy Shop!

Almost Barefoot

Summer is about staying comfortable. So if you have to don a dress periodically, you can find one that is loose and breathable but still presentable for the office.

My rustic copper earrings are designed around these unusual folded polymer clay components from Barbara Hanselman. I have added verdigris patinated triangular Greek copper beads, and then wrapped the clay components with oxidized copper wire. Loose and comfortable for work or play.

Catching Dreams

I recently got some new Vintaj Brass Co. components - these are called Stained Glass Windows. But my vision once I got some Labradorite and Amethyst dangling off of them, was dream catchers.  To dress them up I attached some vintage crystal buttons with some linen cording.

I love the pretty purple, gray and blue flash colors in the stones, and imagine they would probably be pretty hanging in a window! :)

These are available in Lorelei's Etsy shop

Garden Party

Garden Party
These earrings started with just a pair of enameled tulip beadcaps from Gardanne Beads, in an inspiring mix of butter yellow, green and strawberry. I combined them with antiqued copper, pink quartz marquise briolettes (from Fine Gems), seed beads in pale peach knotted onto waxed linen, and Czech glass roundels in antique rose on the earwires. Oddly enough, the soft linen in these earrings reminds me of Lamb's Ear in a garden, surrounded by other flowers.

I picture them with a little retro springtime ensemble!

I have few more pair of earrings in my shop right now using Gardanne Beads beadcaps--you can check them out HERE.

A Handful of Wildflowers

A pretty little pair of earrings called A Handful of Wildflowers is a project that I created for my stint on the 2012 Nunn Design Innovation Team.

I used the rectangle links from a Nunn Design bezel bracelet with some pretty printed tin that I cut to fit. I riveted these pieces of floral tin to the metal with a floral bead cap for added dimension and attached a whole handful of random beads and flower shapes for the just picked from the field look. These swingy earrings would be perfect to wear with this flirty little tunic in a light gauzy material for surviving the heat.

Peruvian Opal

Peruvian Opals are one of my favorite gemstones and so I wanted to make a pair of earrings that would definitely show off these beauties. I used 16g sterling silver wire and wrapped it around a dowel and then hammered it. I used liver of sulphur to patina them along with some sterling wire that I needed to use for wrapping and ear wires.  I'm pleased with how they came out...they will be hard to part with!

Did you know that the Peruvian Opal has soft relaxing energies. Legend says that it takes the tension out of communication and helps ideas flow freely. It softens the impact of stress from the outside world and can help one to release the trauma of old wounds. It facilitates facing the future with a tranquil healing nature.  **info found on www.bernardine.com

Red, White and Blue

Happy Independence Day!

Perfect for today's barbecue, or any other summer day for a patriotic girl!

Carved red coral flowers, my torch-fired brass stars, and little, faceted lapis briolettes, all wired together with copper wire and finished with sterling earwires that have been embellished with just another little pop of blue glass!

Fabulous

I apologize for the late post today! I got sucked into some projects that have been at the top of my priority list and I forgot all about the earrings I had planned today! I hope to do them soon, for my next post, hopefully.

These are some danglies that I created this week. I was inspired by an earring design that I saw recently by my friend Gaea Cannaday. She is amazing designer! I made a few modifications to my earrings as far as using leather, and attaching small porcelain beads onto jump rings along the bottoms.

This is a fun summer color palette and the criss-cross glaze around the Joan Miller Porcelain beads adds some extra texture!

These are available in my etsy store.

No Tea and Crumpets for Me

It is off the beaten path that we find the most interesting people, places and experiences. When we are not concerned with what everyone else is doing or wearing or eating, we are likely to discover something that would otherwise have escaped us. With a long holiday weekend coming up, maybe we should think about where everybody isn't going as our destination?

In these earthy Bohemian earrings, I use Czech glass, brass, copper and gorgeous primitive ceramic components from Petra Carpreau of Scorched Earth on Etsy. I don't know whether Petra likes tea and crumpets; I just love her work.

More Bohemian earrings here and here.

Fairy Flower Buds

Tiny flower buds of clay under copper bead caps and 'stems' with sterling silver earwires.  These earrings looks like something fairies would fashion, perhaps for a Midsummer Night's Dream.

If you are interested in a pair email me for details, I would be happy to take a custom order.
